Leicester have suffered a setback ahead of the new Aviva Premiership season after second-row Ed Slater was ruled out for the opening month.

A knee issue has sidelined the in-form England international, with the 26-year-old having suffered the problem whilst playing against the Crusaders.

“Ed has a knee problem that he picked up playing for England against the Crusaders,” director of rugby Richard Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury.

“He will probably be ready to play again by the end of September or the beginning of October.”
