James Parsons and Colin Slade will join up with the All Blacks for their November tour after Nathan Harris and Cory Jane were ruled out.

The pair were injured in New Zealand’s 74-6 win over the USA, both coming off in the first half after scoring tries.

As a result Steve Hansen has decided to offer Blues hooker James Parsons a first call-up, with the 27-year-old already in the UK having featured for the Barbarians against Australia at Twickenham.

Slade also played in that game, and will come in as cover for Jane, although any involvement would likely require a reshuffle in the backline.

While he has featured almost exclusively at fly-half at Test level, Slade can also fill in at full-back, as he has done with the Crusaders in the past.

With the number of wing options available to Hansen, including Charles Piutau, Ben Smith and of course Julian Savea, the All Blacks coaching side have decided to bring in Slade, who was unfortunate to miss out in the first place having kicked the winning conversion against Australia on his last Test appearance.

New Zealand’s European tour gets underway with a game against England at Twickenham on Saturday.
