Sharks and Springboks fly-half Pat Lambie is facing six weeks out with a neck injury in a major blow to his side's Super Rugby hopes.
Lambie damaged a neck vertebrae in last Saturday's thrashing by the Crusaders, according to Supersport.
His absence means that Fred Zeilinga is likely to get an extended run in the Sharks side over the next few weeks as they try to restore some order, after losing Lambie to injury and a number of suspensions.
Bismarck du Plessis, the regular captain, is still banned for three more weeks, while Jean Deysel was suspended on Tuesday for seven weeks.
Despite their troubles the Sharks remain tied with the Bulls at the top of the South African Conference on 19 points.
