Six Nations teams reject England’s schedule proposal

France have voted against the English Rugby Football Union’s proposal to condense the Six Nations Championship into a six-week schedule from 2020.

The RFU proposal stated England and France shouldn’t play in the first weekend of fixtures, all teams play on the second weekend and instead of the third week being a rest period,  France and England play each other.

Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy are all keen to have the tournament remain the same, with five rounds played over seven weeks with two rest periods.

France backed the quartet at a Six Nations board meeting on Monday to vote on the RFU proposal of losing one bye week. England lost by five votes to one, both the Times and the Daily Telegraph reported.

All nations would have had to agree for the RFU proposal to have been successful.
