Kenya have announced that former player Innocent Simiyu will be their new Sevens head coach, taking over from Benjamin Ayimba.

Kenya were hoping to appoint Sir Gordon Tietjens but after he was named as Samoa's boss on the World Rugby Series, they looked elsewhere.

Simiyu has signed a two-year contract, with Kenya Rugby Union chairman Richard Omwela confirming the news at Monday's press conference.

"Simiyu came out on top of the list during the interviews, hence his appointment," he said, with the Series starting in Dubai on December 2.
