Exeter Chiefs wing Jack Nowell overcame illness to score two tries in his side’s win over Wasps last Saturday.

The England back wasn’t in the best condition to take the field but ended up making a major impact.

“I woke up in the morning feeling rough, I didn’t have the best night’s sleep and was sick all morning,” said Nowell.

“I didn’t eat anything but I wouldn’t miss the game for anything, I love playing at home and I wanted to help us continue our win from last week.”

The victory moved Exeter to the top of the table before Northampton’s win the next day at Saracens, in a major moment for the club since their promotion in 2010.

Next up for the Chiefs is the arrival of Saracens this weekend, with Nowell admitting they cannot let their good start to the season fade away.

“We’re going to try to not take our foot off the gas, we want to keep building on this game,” added Nowell.

“Saracens are a very different team, but the way the crowd are with us at the moment and the way we’re playing is really good and we need to keep going forward.

“We want to be towards the top of the table and the way we’ve started off the season is definitely better than seasons before. We want to continue our form and carry it into the next game.”
