Glasgow and Italy have suffered a blow after wing Leonardo Sarto had to undergo shoulder surgery, it was confirmed on Thursday.

Sarto was injured during his man-of-the-match performance against Leicester Tigers in the European Rugby Champions Cup last month.

He will commence a rehab programme and is expected to be unavailable for up to six months.

Centre Richie Vernon has also undergone shoulder surgery and is expected to be out for around three months having responded positively to his rehab programme.

Meanwhile, Ryan Grant (back), Adam Ashe (hip/foot), Greg Peterson (shoulder), Scott Cummings (shoulder), Tjiuee Uanivi (shoulder) and Chris Fusaro (knees) are making good progress as they continue their rehab from injury.
