Munster have been hit by a blow after hooker Mike Sherry was ruled out for the next six months after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Sherry will undergo surgery once the swelling goes down on the injury sustained against the Dragons in the RaboDirect PRO12 last weekend.

He had enjoyed a productive start to the season having featured in ten matches for Munster and the Irishman will hope for a speedy recovery.

Munster do have some positive news, however, on the fitness of wing Gerhard van den Heever as his hand injury is not as bad as first feared.

The former Stormers man should make a return to Munster training over the Christmas period.
