The Sharks edged Toulon 12-10 to claim the Rugby Masters title in a tense battle at the Stade Mayol.
In a clash of the hemispheres, double European champions Toulon scored the only two tries of the game, but paid for their failure to turn possession into points against a pragmatic Sharks outfit.
Ironically it was the Super Rugby outfit who played the conditions better, and their conservative game plan paid off.
The conditions were not exactly conducive to running rugby, with the freezing cold and rain making handling difficult.
While the home side monopolised the ball, Pat Lambie’s kicking ensured the Sharks led 9-5 at the break, slotting three penalties to one David Smith try.
