Super Rugby franchise the Sharks will play a warm-up match against Premiership side Saracens at Allianz Park on January 25th next year.
The occasion offers something of a unique chance to scrutinise the respective strengths of northern and southern hemisphere club rugby.
“Our players will enjoy the challenge presented by a full-strength Sharks team, packed with Springboks like Bismarck du Plessis and Francois Steyn, and it's sure to be a fantastic rugby occasion at Allianz Park,” Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall told the Saracens website.
Recently appointed Sharks CEO John Smit, who spent part of a glittering playing career with Sarries, said the match would provide a crucial step in the Durban-based side's Super Rugby preparations as well as a spectacle for supporters.
“It will be a wonderful experience for our players to travel to London and play at Allianz Park. The match is a crucial part of our preparations for the new Super Rugby season,” said Smit.
“It will also be the first match in charge for our new coach, Jake White.”
The match will be put before the RFU for approval next week, but has already received the go-ahead from the SARU.
