The Sharks have revealed that they are in discussions with the City of Durban to play matches at the Moses Mabhida Stadium from 2017.
Sharks chief executive John Smit said as yet no agreement has been concluded but he is excited about the possible move to the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue which currently has a capacity of 54,000.
"We enjoy an excellent relationship with officials from the eThekwini Municipality, and we are enthusiastic about their vision for the future of our city," he told the Sharks' official website.
"We are excited about the prospects at Moses Mabhida Stadium, but have made it clear that any move would have to be in the best interests of The Sharks and its supporters.
"Before The Sharks board makes a final decision, we will conduct detailed consultations with important stakeholders like our sponsors, suiteholders and season ticket holders.
"This process will continue over the next few weeks.
“The city has given its full support to this position, and is looking forward to working with The Sharks in the future. We have been inspired by the eThekwini leadership’s commitment and professionalism, and are excited about the opportunities."
