England and Gloucester have suffered a major setback after in-form wing Jonny May was ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old suffered a knee injury against Harlequins in December, which required surgery and made him a doubt for the Six Nations.
However, a further update from the Cherry and Whites has now confirmed the worst as finisher May is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
"Following an operation on his left knee on Tuesday, Jonny May will be ruled out of the remainder of the campaign," said a club statement.
England kick-off their Six Nations campaign under new head coach Eddie Jones on Saturday, February 6 with an away game against Scotland.
