Season over for centre Bennett

Glasgow Warriors have suffered a blow after centre Mark Bennett was ruled out of action for the rest of the PRO12 campaign due to shoulder surgery.

International back Bennett picked up the initial injury playing for Scotland in the Six Nations and it had been hoped that he would not require an operation.

However, a statement on the Glasgow Warriors website confirmed the worst.

"Following an MRI scan at BMI Ross Hall Hospital, it was determined that an operation was required. Mark has now undergone surgery and will begin a period of rehabilitation with the aim of being fit for selection for the World Cup."

In other news, it has been confirmed that winger DTH van der Merwe sustained a hand injury against Cardiff Blues last Friday.

"The Canadian international has undergone surgery under the care of orthopaedic consultant Mr Doug Campbell, who specialises in hand/wrist surgery," the statement continued.

"DTH will now commence a period of rehab with the medics and will be working towards a possible return before the end of the season."
