Scotland head coach Vern Cotter wants to instil a belief in his squad that they can win this year's Six Nations title.

Off the back of an impressive Rugby World Cup campaign which ended in a one-point quarter-final loss to Australia in controversial circumstances, Scotland are unsurprisingly itching for a crack at the Six Nations.

Cotter wasn't too keen to dwell on the outcome of Scotland's World Cup when he named his Six Nations squad on Tuesday, which includes two uncapped props in Rory Sutherland and Zander Fagerson.

The former Clermont boss does hope however that the experience gained from the tournament can give Scotland some extra fuel going into the first game against England at Murrayfield on February 6.

“I think it's important that we believe that we can compete for the title,” Cotter told reporters.

“The World Cup is behind us now and we want to move forward and get better. There were some good things from the World Cup but now it's about taking the next step.

"We weren't totally happy with the World Cup, but shared experiences are important for teams and those tough times will give us a harder edge for this Six Nations.

"We are going to have a real go and will see how things pan out.”
