Scotland have called in back-row forward Blair Cowan to their Rugby World Cup squad as a replacement for injured second-row Grant Gilchrist.
Gilchrist sustained soft tissue damage to his groin in the 19th minute of the team's 39-16 win over USA on Sunday, with the recovery period expected to extend beyond the competition.
But Scotland head coach Vern Cotter has decided to add a back-row to his squad as a replacement, with the London Irish forward joining the group.
Cowan was a shock omission from Scotland's original 31-man squad after starting all of their Six Nations games in 2015, with John Hardie preferred.
He now joins the group though as they prepare for Saturday's crucial pool fixture against South Africa at St James' Park in Newcastle.
