Scarlets moved up to fifth position in the PRO12 standings after they beat Cardiff Blues 15-10 at the Parc y Scarlets on Sunday.
Tries either side of half-time from Steffan Evans and Scott Williams put Scarlets into the ascendancy, with Willis Halaholo pulling the lead back for Cardiff Blues' first and only try.
It wasn't enough though as Scarlets saw through the 15-10 victory on home soil, bouncing back from defeat last time out.
It took only 12 minutes for the hosts to get their first try of 2017 as Evans found the space to go over on the left after good work by the backs in the build up.
Rhys Patchell couldn't find the posts with his conversion attempt, but a strong start for the home side saw the 10 hit three points before the break as Scarlets kept a control of their lead in the first half.
Steve Shingler cut the gap to five points before the break with his first penalty of the afternoon but Scarlets went in 8-3 to the good, a deserved lead after making a strong start.
Patchell missed the chance to restore the eight point lead soon after the restart, seeing a penalty flash wide of the sticks.
He put it right soon after with a conversion, coming after Scarlets had forged a strong attack. Evans made good ground in the build up, finding Jonathan Davies who in turn found Williams for try number two.
Halaholo gave Blues hope though with their first try, stepping past the last man to find the line and allowing Shingler to cut the gap down to only five points.
Scarlets' Aled Thomas had two opportunities late on to seal the victory for the hosts, but a penalty and drop goal attempt both flew wide of the mark as the tie remained nervy for both sets of players until the end. But it was ultimately Scarlets who begin the year with victory, winning 15-10.
