Chiefs centre Sonny Bill Williams is set to return from injury against the Hurricanes in New Plymouth on Saturday.
Williams has missed the Chiefs' last four matches with a back injury but the Hamilton-based franchise's coach Dave Rennie has revealed his star midfielder is back to full fitness.
"He's had a bit of a lumbar thing obviously causing a bit of pain through the gluts and hammies as backs do," he told TVNZ.
"We've been really cautious around him to be honest he probably could of played last week but we didn't want to push him.
"The plan was always this week, so he's fired up, he was pretty keen to play last week."
Williams's expected midfield showdown with Ma'a Nonu is unlikely to happen as the Hurricanes centre is set to be rested for this match. The Chiefs will rest All Blacks openside flanker Sam Cane with first-choice number eight Michael Leitch set to wear the number seven jersey.
