Ardie Savea will play for the New Zealand Sevens team before he returns to his Super Rugby responsibilities with the Hurricanes.

Sevea is eager to represent his nation at the Olympics and will feature in coach Gordan Tietjens’ squad for four World Series events in preparation for the global showpiece in Rio.

After the Wellington Sevens this weekend and the Sydney Sevens on February 6 and 7, the flanker will return to the Hurricanes for ten Super Rugby clashes.

Following that, he will return to the Sevens squad for the the Paris and London finale in May.

In terms of switching codes, Savea revealed that it was not easy to raise his fitness levels required for Sevens.

"I took a while to get back to it," Savea told Stuff.

"That first week I was blowing hard and my body wasn't used to it. You've got to give it up to the boys that do this week in, week out."

The 2016 Olympics begin on August 5 in Rio.
