Billy Vunipola insists Saracens’ main focus was on a win against Sale after they failed to pick up a bonus point on Saturday.
Sarries made it three wins from four in the competition with a 28-15 win at Allianz Park, but couldn’t find a fourth try against their English opponents.
The win sends them top of Pool One for the time being, with Clermont and Munster set to meet in the Auvergne later today.
Vunipola was the pick of the Sarries players, scoring one try and setting up another, and he believes the key now is to win out in order to secure a spot in the last eight.
“I think you saw how tough it was out there,” he said.
“When we got ahead on the scoreboard Sale came back and scored points, it was a really tough contest and you wouldn’t expect anything else in a European game.
“It was a massive game. It was a little disappointing that we didn’t get a four-try bonus point, but we’ll live to fight another day. The win is the most important thing.
“Munster and Clermont had a really tough game last weekend, and now we’ve all lost one game. It’s about us winning those remaining games, but we know it’s going to get tougher from here.”
