Phil Thiel has joined Saracens and arrived in north London on Sunday. The US Eagles hooker has been signed as short-term cover for Schalk Brits, a member of the Springbok squad competing in the Rugby Championship.

The 29-year-old becomes the fifth US Eagle in the Saracens squad, playing alongside compatriots Titi Lamositele, Hayden Smith, Chris Wyles and Thretton Palamo.

“I'm really looking forward to training with the Premiership finalists,” said Thiel.

“Following the squad's recent visits to New York and Chicago, and the number of US players on the roster, an ever increasing number of Americans can see there is something special happening at Saracens, and I am delighted to be part of it.”
