Sale to fight Wasps for Taylor

Sale Sharks are reportedly facing stiff competition from Premiership rivals Wasps to sign in-form hooker Tommy Taylor to a new contract.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Ricoh Arena side are interested in Taylor, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has already played for his country against the Barbarians earlier this year and Sale Sharks boss Steve Diamond has admitted he will be pushing hard for the Academy product to remain at the north-west club.

"We're in negotiations with him as we speak,” he told the MEN website.

"My opinion is that Tommy Taylor is the leader of the gang of these young lads we have at Sale Sharks.

"He's spiritually born and bred up here and for him to leave us would be a disaster."

Taylor is not the only player Diamond is set to sit down with as young centre Will Addison and experienced flanker Dave Seymour are also out of contract at the end of 2015/16.

"There is a bit of recruiting to do and a number of lads we are also seeing on the retention front so we are busy in both areas," he added.
