SA Rugby boss set to appear in court in 2019

SA Rugby chief executive Jurie Roux is set to appear in court in March next year on allegations of financial mismanagement, according to South African media reports.

The University of Stellenbosch is suing Roux for allegedly manipulating funds to favour the rugby programme during the time when he was the Stellenbosch Rugby Club's chairperson.

This is alleged to have happened over a nine-year period when Roux had access to the university's financial management system.

A preliminary report by an audit firm revealed that Roux withheld R35-million (US$2,742,390.00) of Stellenbosch university's reserves from their council.

Netwerk24 reports that a pre-trial for the case, where the judge would determine whether the case is ready to be heard, was set to begin in the Western Cape High Court on March 22.

The court roll appears to be fully booked for 2018, however, which means that the case may only take place in 2019.

In 2010, Roux stepped down from his position as Stellenbosch Rugby Club's chairperson to become SA Rugby's chief executive.

His SA Rugby contract was extended by five years in August 2014.
