Leicester Tigers flanker Dominic Ryan faces a spell on the sidelines as a result of a head injury, the Premiership club has announced.
Ryan, who joined Tigers from Leinster in the summer, had been settling into his new surroundings when he suffered a head injury in the win at Harlequins in Round 4 of the Premiership season and, coupled with a couple of head knocks last season, has been advised to sit out the action.
"Dom had a couple of head knocks before he got here and then he picked up another one in the game at Quins, so he is being stood him down for three months," said Tigers head coach Matt O'Connor.
"That is standard procedure at the moment, and we have done it with other players before, but a player’s welfare is paramount and we look forward to having him back to full fitness and available to play after that break.
"It is disappointing because he was settling in well and has a key part to play for us, but it is very important to look after players and he hope to have him back around Christmas.
"We have a good squad and there are options in the back row and we will continue to prepare as well as we possibly can with the players we have."
