Successful Fiji Sevens coach Ben Ryan has been surprisingly left off the list of nominees for the 2017 Fiji Rugby Awards.
Ryan guided the Men’s Sevens side to a Sevens World Series title before going to Rio and winning the country’s first-ever Olympic medal by taking gold against Great Britain.
The Englishman then stepped down from his role and was widely celebrated back in Fiji, before a war of words in December soured relations between the two parties after Ryan urged the FRU to contract his former players following their title in Dubai.
Ryan’s resulting snub in the ‘Coach of the Year’ category appears to be a continuation of that disagreement between the two parties.
The Fiji Mens’s Sevens side are nominated for ‘Best Team’, with the awards taking place on January 14 in Suva.
What a ridiculously childish statement. I’ve only said positive things about everyone and one tweet that tells the truth hits a chord. https://t.co/Id50UdoWhn
