Chiefs second row Brodie Retallick will not be travelling with the side to South Africa after suffering broken ribs against the Lions.

The influential All Blacks second row could be out for up to six weeks in a major blow for the Chiefs.

Retallick suffered the injury at the start of the second half in Hamilton and will now miss the Chiefs' overseas trip to face the Kings in Port Elizabeth and then the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.

Winger Shaun Stevenson is another absentee as he misses out thanks to a shoulder injury, while hooker Hika Elliot is yet to return to full fitness.
