Rennie set to head overseas

Chiefs boss Dave Rennie plans to further his coaching career overseas when his contract finishes at the end of the 2017 Super Rugby season.

Rennie is viewed as a leading contender to coach the All Blacks one day but his decision to head abroad presents New Zealand Rugby with an interesting situation when they have to replace current head coach Steve Hansen.

But Rennie is keen to coach overseas as he believes Hansen will stay on with the world champions until the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

"I've always talked about going overseas, just to experience a different culture," he told Radiosport.

"So I'm pretty keen to do that.

"I think Steve Hansen will stay anyway, and it'd be a good move from New Zealand Rugby – they're going well and they're defending champions, and why push someone out the door.

"So I think he'll probably stay till the next World Cup, and then there'll be a number of people putting their hand up."
