Chiefs boss Dave Rennie has called for greater “common sense” from the TMO after his side's win over the Rebels on Friday.

A close-run affair saw the Chiefs edge home in a 39-33 victory as the Rebels surged late on, with Rennie left questioning TMO Steve Leszczynski who ruled out a late try for Gareth Anscombe.

With inconclusive footage over a knock-on in the build-up to Anscombe's attempted score seeing the try ruled out, Rennie was left frustrated after the Rebels had been awarded a dubious score of their own minutes earlier when James O'Connor combined with Kurtley Beale.

“I think the quality of the person sitting in the chair's important and you have a feel for the game and they need to have some common sense around some of their decisions,” said Rennie to Radio Sport.

“It feels like they're trying to work out how they can not give that try as opposed to the other way around.

“I struggled to see faults with Gareth's last try and there were a couple of other dodgy decisions earlier on. Our issues are ours. We've got a few things to sort out from a playing point of view but they (TMO decisions) could have such a massive bearing on the game.”
