Sharks scrum-half Cobus Reinach has been called up to the Springbok training camp in Cape Town following an injury to Jano Vermaak.

Vermaak, one of only two scrum-halves in the training squad, picked up a grade one hamstring tear during Saturday's Super Rugby match between the Bulls and the Cheetahs in Pretoria.

Following a medical examination at the Springbok training camp on Sunday, it was decided that Vermaak will not be able to train with the squad on Monday or Tuesday.

“With Francois Hougaard also unable to train, we needed cover at scrum-half and decided to bring Cobus to Cape Town,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

“He was the next scrum-half on our list and has been very good for the Sharks this season.

“He's still young and has a promising career ahead of him, so it would be good to get to know him better and also for him to see what our plans are for the season.”

The 23-year-old Reinach, whose late father, Jaco, played for the Springboks in the 1980s, made his Super Rugby debut last season.

He played in all of the Sharks' matches this season and will join the Springbok training squad at their base in Cape Town on Monday morning.
