Sale Sharks have announced the signing of Wales and Cardiff Blues second-row Lou Reed on a two-year contract.

Born in Treorchy, Reed started his career at the Celtic Warriors before joining Scarlets where he played over 100 games. He joined Cardiff in 2012 and has represented the Blues on 40 occasions including 17 games last season.

He was named in the 45 man training squad for the 2015 World Cup and made his full international debut against Scotland in February 2012.

The 28-year-old went on to play against the Wallabies in the Autumn Tests at the Millennium Stadium and was part of the 2013 Wales team that went on to win the Six Nations Championship.

Reed also toured Japan with Wales in the summer of 2013.

Sale Sharks’ director of rugby, Steve Diamond, said: ” Lou came highly recommended by Dwayne Peel. He is a big physical guy (6ft 6ins and 120kg) who will be a very abrasive addition to the squad.”

Reed ┬ásaid: ” After playing for Cardiff and Scarlets I am really looking forward to playing for Sale Sharks in the Premiership. I have been training all week and have been welcomed by everyone at the club.”
