The Melbourne Rebels have appealed the one-week ban handed out to outside back Lachlan Mitchell for a tackle on Simon Zebo.

Mitchell was cited under Law 10.4 (j) – “lifting a player from the ground and dropping that player into the ground while that player's feet are still off the ground, such that the player's upper body comes into contact with the ground” with relation to an incident that occurred during the Rebels clash with the touring British and Irish Lions.

The 25-year-old was found guilty by Judicial Officer Nigel Hampton QC and handed a suspension, a decision the Rebels feels is incorrect.

As such, an appeal hearing will be will by Justice Lex Mpati via video conference on Wednesday.
