Harlequins have announced the signing of Yorkshire Carnegie and England Sevens scrum-half Sam Egerton as injury cover for Karl Dickson.

Commenting on the news, Harlequins Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea said: “We are delighted to be able to bring Sam on board on a short term basis. He is talented and ambitious and I am looking forward to his period with us.”

Egerton, a graduate of Oxford University, has played in four consecutive Varsity matches and became the first player since 1925 to score in three consecutive games in the series. In 2012 and 2014, he was named man of the match.

Between January and April 2015, Egerton made 11 appearances for Yorkshire Carnegie in the Greene King IPA Championship, scoring seven tries, before agreeing a contract with England Sevens.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Egerton attended Adams Grammar School in Shropshire, the county he has represented at senior level. Prior to that, he represented Staffordshire at U14 to U18, the Midlands U16, North Midlands U20 and Oxbridge U23.
