Harlequins prop Will Collier believes his team is playing with more confidence as they look to overcome a sluggish start to the season.

The Stoop outfit really struggled at the start of their Aviva Premiership campaign, with heavy losses against Saracens and Exeter early on.

Defeat to Leicester at Welford Road a fortnight ago left them seventh in the table heading into the European break, but they bounced back well with a 25-9 win over Castres in the inaugural game of the European Champions Cup.

Collier was at the heart of that with a fierce battle in the set-piece, and he feels that Quins are just starting to hit their stride.

“It was excellent last week against Castres. Everything just seemed to click, we had a great buzz, we were playing with real confidence which is what we love and we need to do,” said Collier.

“We need confidence when we play. You can see it in the way the team plays and the way the team functions. Even when we were still 9-6 up and there were 50, 60 minutes gone but we weren’t looking at the scoreboard.

“We are a big game team and that was a huge game, coming out with all the fireworks and kicking off the new competition. It was great to be a part of and we probably all got caught up with it.

“I think Harlequins are on track this season. We’re not where we’d like to be in the league, we’d like to be a bit higher up but it’s so early on and the big games will come up and as I said we’ll thrive on that.

“But it’s about doing the week in, week out performances and being consistent which I’m sure we’ll get. The last few performances have been building towards that.”
