Pumas see off the Sharks

The Pumas picked up a deserved 33-24 victory over the Sharks in Nelspruit on Friday to get their 2015 Currie Cup campaign off to an impressive start.

Fly-half JC Roos was the star of the show for the hosts as his assured boot contributed eighteen points while he also put his team in the right places.

Meanwhile, inside centre Stefan Watermeyer and flank Marnus Schoeman (2) scored the tries, with the latter his usual busy self in the loose exchanges.

The Sharks, who were 27-7 down at the break after Watermeyer hit a good angle on eleven minutes before Schoeman did the same with half-an-hour played and then carried over off a driving maul, only had a Lionel Cronje try converted by Joe Pietersen to show for what was a disappointing first-half.

However, they responded superbly after the interval as inside centre Heimar Williams went over on 41 minutes to make it 27-14. Roos though would step up and send over three points for 30-14 which was how it remained until just after the hour mark at Mbombela Stadium in an entertaining contest.

Sharks replacement Daniel du Preez made things interesting with his score on 63 minutes before Pietersen landed a penalty to make it 30-24. But again Roos would come to the fore for the Pumas with his boot, landing his fourth penalty of the game with a minute to play to seal victory whilst sending the Sharks home with nothing to show for their efforts.
