Argentina's Leonardo Senatore and Pablo Matera have been cited for alleged biting and eye gouging during their clash with South Africa.

Argentina loose forwards Leonardo Senatore and Pablo Matera have been cited for alleged biting and eye gouging during their clash with South Africa.

Senatore allegedly bit Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth in the second half of the match and while initial replays did not show any obvious evidence, the English-based player has now been cited.

“Senatore is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship when he allegedly bit South African player Eben Etzebeth,” SANZAR said in a statement.

“Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play.”

Matera was involved in an unsavoury incident involving a furious Francios Louw in which the South African flank indicated that contact had been made with his eyes. On inspection of the video footage, Matera has been cited.

“Matera is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) Acts contrary to good sportsmanship when he allegedly made contact with the eyes of South African player Francois Louw. The incident occurred in the 45th minute of the match between Argentina and South Africa at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza on 24 August 2013,” a statement read.

“Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play.”

A date for the disciplinary hearings has not yet been released.
