New Bath prop Henry Thomas insists that fighting for a spot at club and Test level with David Wilson is a good thing.

The 22-year-old moved to The Rec from Sale Sharks ahead of this season but faces a battle for the number three shirt.

Pushing for a starting spot at both levels is something that Thomas though views as a positive, especially after having discussions with Stuart Lancaster and Graham Rowntree before his move south.

“I know Davey really well and we get on well too,” said Thomas.

“We have been on a few tours now and we work together well. Hopefully we will have a nice, tough environment here at Bath.

“The big thing about the move was working with [forwards coach] Neal Hatley, alongside Wilson and Paul James and Dave Attwood and having that big, bulking pack.

“Davey being here will only help me. He is a good quality tighthead and one of the best scrummagers around. Whatever I can learn from him is a massive positive.

“I had a conversation with Stuart Lancaster and Graham Rowntree and asked would it be a problem if we are at the same club and they didn't have a problem with that at all.

“If we are pushing each other, it can only be a good thing.”
