New signing Christian Loamanu will make his first start for Leicester in Tuesday’s clash with the Barbarians at Welford Road.
Summer signing Christian Loamanu will make his first starting appearance for Leicester Tigers in Tuesday’s clash with the Barbarians at Welford Road.
Injury had restricted Loamanu to just one brief appearance as a replacement since his arrival from Treviso in the summer, but he will join Anthony Allen in the Tigers midfield for a fixture organised as part of the Barbarians’ 125th anniversary year.
Vereniki Goneva and Miles Benjamin are on the wings, with Freddie Burns moving to full-back. Owen Williams starts alongside David Mele at half-back.
Laurence Pearce returns to the forward pack and there is a place for Jake Farnworth at hooker after making his senior debut in the opening round of this season’s LV= Cup. Jordan Crane will lead the team as captain.
Academy hooker George Nairn is included among the replacements and Tommy Bell could earn a first appearance at Welford Road after making his club debut in the win at London Irish on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Australia’s Tom English has been drafted into the Barbarians squad for this clash.
The uncapped Melbourne Rebels centre/wing has been given a special dispensation to play for the famous invitation club and will rejoin the Wallabies after the game.
Also included are Canada wing Sean Duke and prop Jason Marshall, and Worcester Warriors hooker Neil Annett.
“We’re very grateful to the head coaches of Australia, Canada and Worcester for releasing these players to join us,” said Barbarians head coach Sir John Kirwan.
“It’s a great gesture on the part of Michael Cheika, Kieran Crowley and Dean Ryan and we hope all four players enjoy their time with us.”
Annett, Duke and Marshall linked up with the Barbarians today after fly half Colin Slade and hooker James Parsons were called into the New Zealand squad.
The Barbarians go to Welford Road after being beaten 40-36 by Australia in a superb 11-try contest at Twickenham last Saturday.
The game was rounded off by a long-range try scored by Marnitz Boshoff that ranks as one of the club’s greatest and he starts up a fly half against the Tigers.
Japanese scrum half Fumiaki Tanaka, Stormers flanker Michael Rhodes and veteran Sharks back row forward Jacques Botes also come into the starting line-up and there is an injection of pace at full back where Blues’ flier Tevita Li makes his first appearance.
