Fresh from furthering Leicester’s misery with a second-ever win at Welford Road, London Irish will aim to slay another giant on Saturday.

Fresh from furthering Leicester’s misery with a second-ever win at Welford Road, London Irish will aim to slay another giant on Saturday.

Premiership champions Northampton Saints head to Reading looking for their fourth win of the season following the narrow success over Bath last time out.

Northampton had that game sewn up until Bath battle back to finish within seven points, something that Irish have done in both of their two defeats this season to Harlequins and Saracens.

In fact their performance in the loss to Saracens last time they played at the Madejski was arguably better than their one at Welford Road, picking apart Saracens defence with a tactical kicking game that yielded a hat-trick for rising star Alex Lewington.

Shoring up their scrum looks to have made the Exiles competitive again, but Northampton own one of the best packs in the business.

If Irish really are on the road to being contenders once more, then a win over Saints would send a message.

For Northampton, it would be business as usual to keep the pressure on Saracens following their match on Friday against Bath.

Irish boss Brian Smith has made one change to his starting XV from the side that played against Leicester.
