Harlequins and Castres will start off a new era in European rugby history when the two sides meet at The Stoop on Friday.

Grouped in Pool 2 with Leinster and Wasps a fast start is essential, particularly for Harlequins whose domestic form so far this season has been underwhelming.

Only the regular hammering of London Welsh will have really lifted supporters spirits, with Quins suffering a 39-0 horrorshow at home to Saracens and most recently losing away at Welford Road.

Conor O’Shea remains defiant over his team’s capabilities and they showed real resolve in fighting back at Leicester to claim a losing bonus point.

They will also welcome back Danny Care, the England scrum-half who missed last Friday’s match following the birth of his son.

As for Castres their early-season fortunes have been similarly dismal, with their defence shambolic.
