Worcester Warriors will be without the services of new signing Dewald Potgieter for the rest of the season due to injury.
Potgieter joined the Warriors early this year and requires surgery on a shoulder injury suffered in Worcester's one-point win over Newcastle last Friday.
The 28-year-old, capped six times by South Africa, arrived at Sixways after playing for Yamaha Júbilo in Japan.
Worcester boss Dean Ryan confirmed the news on Wednesday, adding that while losing Potgieter was a setback now was the time for somebody else in the squad to step up.
“Dewald is going to require surgery on his shoulder so we have lost him,” Ryan told Worcester News.
“The surgery will be on Friday and that will knock him out for the rest of the season.
“Yes, it’s a loss but we’re in a game that needs to move on quickly and it’s an opportunity for the next group.”
“He was injured it in the 35th minute of the game at Newcastle and, as a back-rower, the contest area above the ball is central to the position.”
