Points precious for Gloucester

Gloucester director of rugby David Humphreys was happy to see his side scrap for a 23-19 win over Sale Sharks at Kingsholm on Friday.

The win elevates Gloucester momentarily as high as sixth in the Premiership with only their third win of the season.

Number eight Sione Kalamafoni scored two tries for the Cherry and Whites as Gloucester did enough to put away the visitors in the end.

"The four points was all that mattered tonight, we were disappointed at half-time, the first half was characterised by unforced errors," Humphreys said.

"In the second half I thought we played some really good rugby but probably more important than that, we defended with real passion and urgency.

"We are absolutely delighted to come away against a really good Sale team with four points.

"After a couple of disappointing league performances we have questioned what we are doing but the one thing you cannot fault is the character of the team.

"We know we have a lot of work to do but we showed tonight, players coming off the bench made a huge impact and that's what we need in what is going to be a long and a pretty tough season.

"We have got real depth across our back row, we need people putting competition on each other and when they get their chance they take it."
