The ARU and Brumbies appear to be facing a battle to keep David Pocock as he is considering a year off from the game.
According to the Daily Telegraph in Australia, the international star is looking to study in England for twelve months, which has alarmed the ARU.
Pocock's current deal expires on December 31 and with the Brumbies wanting him to remain with the franchise, some intriguing decisions await.
"It creates all sorts of problems if Poey takes a break,” Brumbies chief executive Michael Jones said, speaking to the Australian publication.
"My preferred solution, and our offer to him, doesn't allow a break.
"There is still a fair bit of water to go under the bridge."
