Pivac eyes Saracens scalp

Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac is determined to build on their strong home form when they face Saracens in the Champions Cup.

The Welsh region know this weekend’s fixture is must-win as they look to keep alive their slim hopes of qualification for the knockout stage.

Currently they are on eight points and will be targeting a best runner-up spot, which they could achieve if they beat Saracens and Sale Sharks.

Pivac admits though that will be difficult, saying: “We were in a tough group last season and it doesn’t get much tougher than the champions.

“It’s that time of the year where all squads are being tested, the deeper the squad the better off you are. [Saracens] are a class side and their record speaks for itself.

“It’s a massive test for us and one that the guys are really looking forward to.”

He added on Sunday’s game at Parc y Scarlets: “We’re certainly not going to take this game lightly. We’re putting out a side that we believe is the strongest selectable to get a result.

“We have a proud record at home, it’s going to be one of the biggest games, if not the biggest game, of the season and that’s the way we’re approaching it.

“We need to win both games and that is a big challenge. We’ve given ourselves a starters chance and it’s all on this game this weekend. The fact that we’re playing at home is great for us. It’s going to be an exciting game and we’ll hopefully see a lot of good rugby.”
