Louis Picamoles could be back in contention to face Italy next weekend after it was confirmed he would play for Toulouse on Friday.
With France having lost two straight games in the Six Nations, and seemingly in disarray, Philippe Saint-André could be tempted to look for alternative solutions to turn things around.
In Picamoles, he has one of the most powerful ball-carrying number eights in Europe, however the Toulouse back rower has struggled through illness and injury this season.
His latest comeback was just before the start of the Six Nations, but he last less than half an hour away at Castres before limping off.
However he insists that he is now fit and firing ahead of a crucial trip to Oyonnax on Friday, with Toulouse seeking to consolidate their place in the top six.
"We gave it a go at Castres but it was perhaps a little early," said Picamoles.
"I came off pretty quickly to avoid doing any further damage, but now I'm ready. I've had the time to recover. There are no problems and I'm in great shape."
Saint-André is set to announce his squad to prepare for the Italy game some time this week, it remains to be seen whether Picamoles will be included before making his playing return.
