Sale scrum-half Mike Phillips believes the end to his team’s drought is coming after last week’s improved performance against Toulon.
The Sharks went down 27-12 to the French side – their tenth defeat in a row – but they were right in the game until the closing minutes.
And that showing has encouraged Welsh international Phillips, who is confident his outfit will claim a victory sooner rather than later.
“I think we’ve got to take some positives from the Toulon game, but at the same time we’ve got to be hard on ourselves as well, we lost another game,” he told Sale‘s website in a buoyant mood.
“We are improving but it’s a tricky one, you go to a place like Toulon and some of the best players in the world are in that team. We could have won that game at the end but we let it slip.
“We’ve got talented players with the ability to create something which is important, which you saw with Sam James and his try against Toulon.
“Mike Haley at the back too he’s that type of player, he can create something out of nothing, so we’ve got a talented team and a talented squad we just need to click and I’m sure wins will start coming.
“We’ve talked about that accuracy across the board because it’s not one person’s job it’s everybody in the team and we’re all buying into it.
“Performances are getting better but it’s all about winning and we need to start getting some wins.”
This week sees the Scarlets come to the AJ Bell Stadium and Phillips stressed his men must kick on from the improved Stade Mayol effort.
“We’re looking to build on last week and fine tune a few things, have a few better decisions on the ball, when to kick and when to keep it,” he added.
“Our defence against Toulon was much improved, we showed some real aggression and turned up last weekend.
“We really played for the jersey, we had our fans there, the sponsors came over, we didn’t want to let anyone down but at the end of the day we need to get back to winning ways.
“We’re playing in the AJ Bell and we’ve got to get back to winning ways there. A win is our priority.”
