Recalled Wallabies number eight Wycliff Palu has revealed that he feels lucky to return to the squad ahead of their showdown with New Zealand.

The 33-year-old, who has struggled with injuries over recent seasons, was this week named in the group that is preparing for the important clash in Sydney.

He had missed out on the Rugby Championship victories over South Africa and Argentina but is set to feature in this weekend's Rugby Championship decider.

"I'm pretty lucky to get the opportunity to add to the group, I think the boys have been doing pretty good," admitted a pleased Palu when speaking to Reuters.

New Zealand will enter the tournament-deciding fixture as favourites with the bookmakers but Palu believes his side can rise to the challenge on Saturday.

"I think they [New Zealand] probably lift for us, and they are the world champs and for us to beat them we've got to go to another level, you know," he added.

"Hopefully come next week we can do that."
