Oyonnax facing Weepu delay

Problems with Piri Weepu's visa have prevented the Rugby World Cup-winning scrum-half from linking up with his new side, Oyonnax.

Weepu spent time in the Premiership last season with first London Welsh and then Wasps.

The Oyonnax squad assembled on Tuesday for physical tests before their first training session on Friday, but with Weepu's visa still to be processed he will not take part.

Other potential absentees for Oyonnax and their new boss Olivier Azam include those with Rugby World Cup commitments including Viliami Ma'afu, Valentin Ursache, Maurie Fa'asavalu, Soane Tonga'huia and Fetu'u Vainikolo.

Club captain Florian Denos was pleased with the attitude shown by the players on their return to the training centre in Marchon.

"There was the desire and enthusiasm," Denos told Rugbyrama.

"It was hard because it was hot and that we ran a lot. Despite this, we were pretty focused. It was the first morning and a satisfactory first session as a group."
