Ospreys have yet to decide whether Jeff Hassler and new signing Ma'afu Fia will feature in this weekend's PRO12 derby with Cardiff Blues.
The wing and tighthead prop have been struggling with knee problems, Hassler from the World Cup and Fia during a game for the Highlanders.
But it looks like the Super Rugby stalwart is close to making his Ospreys bow, as backs coach Gruff Rees explained the current situation.
"Potentially he may make his debut this weekend, depending on how Dmitri Arhip pulls around," Rees told the South Wales Evening Post.
"Dmitri had to come off the field with a lower-limb injury against Clermont and there are a few minor things there. Fia was a travelling reserve for that game. He's got used to some of our language calls and he's doing more set-piece work.
"So there is that option.
"Whether it's a week too soon, we will have to balance out. Zebre away is a pretty big game, so we are looking at a couple of changes this week and a couple of changes next week, and then we'll head back into Europe."
On the progress of Canada international Hassler, Rees added: "He's involved in training, doing a modified part of our session yesterday.
"It's going to be tight, but we are not going to select until late in the week, so we'll see how it goes.
"I'd certainly like to see a couple of things he could offer."
