The Ospreys maintained their perfect start to the season by claiming a 26-15 victory over the Cardiff Blues in their Welsh derby in Swansea on Sunday.
Dan Evans’ try, aided by the accurate boot of Biggar – who contributed 16 points via four penalties and two conversions – gave the hosts a comfortable 19-3 lead at the interval.
Rhys Patchell’s penalty was Cardiff’s sole response in the first half, but they were once again poor before the break.
They were similarly lacking in ideas in the second 40 minutes and Rhys Webb’s touchdown confirmed the win which took the Ospreys to the top of the Guinness Pro12 table.
Lloyd Williams and Kristian Dacey crossed the whitewash for the visitors late on, but it couldn’t stop them going down to their fourth defeat of the campaign.
Despite containing a youthful side, the Swansea-based outfit have been the standout team in the Pro12 so far, and against a side who have been the opposite of stellar, Steve Tandy’s men dominated the opening exchanges of this encounter.
The Blues, seemingly lacking confidence, were ill-disciplined and successive penalties from Biggar gave the home team a deserved 6-0 lead. Two more three-pointers followed from the boot of the stand-off – the second after Sam Warburton had been sin-binned – as they extended their advantage.
To their credit, the Blues managed to score their first points of the half while down to 14 men when Patchell kicked a long-range effort.
However, their defence was eventually exposed as a spell of pressure resulted in Evans crossing the whitewash for a 19-3 lead at the break.
Matters didn’t improve in the second period for the Blues with them once again on the back foot.
Webb touched down after another spell close to the visitors’ line and Biggar converted to effectively end the game as a contest.
Williams and Dacey did go over late on for Cardiff but it was just mere consolation having been outplayed for most of the match.
