Ospreys clinched a much-needed win in the Pro12 on Saturday as they squeezed past Treviso with a 25-22 victory in Italy.

The first half proved to be a tight encounter with the Welsh region going into a 12-8 lead through Dan Evans and Ben John tries.

James Ambrosini's touchdown and Jayden Hayward's penalty meant Benetton were still in touch at the break, but 13 points from Sam Davies in the second period, including a try, sealed the win for the visitors.

Hayward also touched down after the interval as Treviso pushed for the losing bonus-point and they got their reward through Luca Bigi.

By their high standards, Steve Tandy's men have endured a torrid start to the season and they were looking to improve on their record of three successive losses.

Treviso haven't fared much better, but the Italian side were competitive in their opening two matches and they opened this game on the front foot.

Hayward's penalty was the reward for a bright start, but the visitors soon found their fluency with ball in hand. Davies missed two opportunities off the tee to get them on the scoreboard before a fine move resulted in Evans crossing the whitewash for the first try of the encounter.

However, Treviso hit back, taking advantage of some disappointing Ospreys defence and going over through Ambrosini.

That effort regained Benetton's lead but it failed to last as the Welsh region touched down for the second time via John's close range try. A successful conversion from their stand-off meant Tandy's team went into the interval 12-8 ahead.

Davies kicked an early second-half penalty to extend that buffer, but the match remained tight until the fly-half scampered clear to effectively complete the victory.

Hayward did go over for the hosts but Davies' late three-pointer appeared to take the losing bonus-point away from Treviso.

However, in the last minute, Bigi crossed the line to bring themselves to within the required seven points.
