Oosthuizen set to miss World Cup

The Springboks' injury woes worsened when it was revealed that prop Coenie Oosthuizen is set to miss the Rugby World Cup due to a neck injury.

Oosthuizen, who has left the Cheetahs to further his career at the Sharks in 2016, was included in coach Heyneke Meyer's 49-man Springbok squad but did not join the rest of the group in Johannesburg this week as he was recovering from surgery.

Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts revealed that the injury should not spell the end of the 26-year-old's rugby career.

“At the end of the day, a player needs to take care of his own interests,” Roberts told Netwerk24.

“Coenie visited a very competent specialist and we decided he should make sure of his future in rugby.

"He will probably give up his dream to play in the World Cup this year, but at least he’ll be able to keep on playing.”

Oosthuizen has represented South Africa in 21 Tests since making his debut against England in Durban in 2012.
